SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (Interstat) — LD Alajuelense and Deportivo Saprissa played to a 1-1 draw Sunday in a Primera División match, a result that mirrored a pregame statistical projection.

Saprissa took the lead in the 27th minute on a goal from defender Kendall Waston. Alajuelense responded before halftime, with forward Ronaldo Cisneros equalizing in the 41st minute. Neither side could find a winner in the second half.

The draw leaves Saprissa with a league record of 22-9-7, while Alajuelense moves to 20-7-6 this season in domestic play. The result continued a trend of close matches between the historic rivals, though it denied Alajuelense a victory that was heavily favored by predictive models.
