SAN JUAN DE TIBAS, Costa Rica (Interstat) — Deportivo Saprissa opened its Primera División season with a commanding 4-0 victory over Perez Zeledon on Sunday at Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá.

The home side broke open a scoreless match with a late flurry, netting all four goals in the final minutes. Mariano Torres scored in the 85th minute, followed by a Jefferson Brenes goal in the 89th. Gerson Torres added another in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat, which gave Saprissa an 89% probability to win but simulated a 2-1 scoreline. The win gives Saprissa a perfect start to the domestic campaign, while Perez Zeledon begins with a loss.
