AZ vs Twente

ALKMAAR, Netherlands (Interstat) — AZ and Twente played to a 2-2 draw Sunday in an Eredivisie match at AFAS Stadion, the opening weekend for both clubs in the Dutch top flight.

Jordy Clasie put AZ ahead in the 13th minute, but Twente equalized in the 32nd minute when goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro found the net – a rare scoring feat for a goalkeeper. Sam Lammers gave Twente the lead in the 55th minute before AZ’s Peer Koopmeiners equalized in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time.

The draw left both teams with identical records: zero wins, zero losses and one draw in league play, as well as across all competitions.

Owusu-Oduro, who also started in goal for AZ, and Lammers, who came on as a substitute for Twente, were the key performers. Each scored one goal, with Owusu-Oduro’s strike adding an unusual note to an otherwise evenly contested match.

AZ controlled possession for much of the first half and broke through early when Clasie finished from close range. Twente responded methodically, and Owusu-Oduro’s goal – a long-range effort that caught the opposing defense off guard – leveled the score before halftime.

After the break, Lammers entered the match and quickly made his presence felt, converting a chance in the 55th minute that put Twente ahead. AZ pushed forward in search of an equalizer and finally found it in stoppage time when Koopmeiners’ shot found the back of the net.

Both sides had chances to win in the final moments, but the match ended in a stalemate that reflected the projections from Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast a 1-1 draw. Interstat’s ELO system had given AZ a 52.00 percent probability to win heading into the contest.
