ZWOLLE, Netherlands (Interstat) — PEC Zwolle and Excelsior opened their Eredivisie campaigns with a 2-2 draw Sunday at MAC³PARK Stadion.

Excelsior’s Thijs Oosting scored just three minutes into the match, but Zwolle’s Derensili Fernandes equalized in the 16th. Odysseus Velanas put the visitors ahead again in the 60th minute with a goal assisted by Irakli Yegoian. Szymon Włodarczyk secured the home point for Zwolle with an 80th-minute strike. Yegoian received a yellow card in the 53rd minute.

The result defied pre-match projections that heavily favored a Zwolle victory. Both clubs begin the league season with identical records.
