DEVENTER, Netherlands (Interstat) — Go Ahead Eagles opened its Eredivisie season with a commanding 4-0 victory over Heracles on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026, at De Adelaarshorst. The win defied pre-match projections that favored the visitors.

Søren Tengstedt opened the scoring in the 30th minute before receiving a yellow card earlier. Melle Meulensteen doubled the lead just after halftime. A quick second-half brace from Mathis Suray and Jakob Breum sealed the dominant performance within a four-minute span.

The result immediately separates the clubs in the early table. Heracles begins its campaign with a defeat, while Go Ahead Eagles start with a statement victory, outperforming statistical forecasts that gave Heracles a slight edge to win.
