BENEVENTO, Italy (Interstat) — Benevento defeated Catania 2-1 on Thursday in a Serie C match at Stadio Ciro Vigorito, avenging a loss from October.

The hosts struck twice in a three-minute span early. Gabriel Lunetta opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, followed by Davide Lamesta’s goal in the 25th. Catania, which had won the previous meeting 1-0, pressured late and pulled one back through Guglielmo Mignani in the 85th minute but could not find an equalizer.

The victory solidifies Benevento’s strong league position. Catania’s recent unbeaten run in the competition was snapped with the defeat.
