PREVIEW: RB LEIPZIG W VISITS SGS ESSEN IN FRAUEN-BUNDESLIGA CLASH

ESSEN, Germany (Interstat) — A crucial Frauen-Bundesliga matchup Sunday pits a surging RB Leipzig W against a struggling SGS Essen side seeking a vital home result.

The game at Stadion Essen kicks off at 1 p.m. local time (1200 GMT).

RB Leipzig (6-5-6, 23 points) arrives with momentum, having won two consecutive league matches. They defeated Hamburger SV 3-1 on Feb. 8 and followed with a 3-1 victory over Nurnberg last Saturday. Their form has stabilized after a difficult stretch that included losses to powerhouses Bayern Munich and VfL Wolfsburg in late 2025.

SGS Essen (2-7-8, 13 points) sits near the bottom of the table and is winless in its last four outings. Essen managed a commendable 1-1 draw at defending champion Wolfsburg last Sunday but has scored only one goal in its last three matches. Defensive consistency has been an issue, conceding four goals in recent losses to Eintracht Frankfurt and Union Berlin.

The head-to-head history favors the visitors. In their last meeting on Oct. 10, RB Leipzig earned a 2-1 home victory. Leipzig’s attack, which has produced three goals in each of its last two games, will test an Essen defense that has kept just one clean sheet since early December.

A statistical projection by Interstat forecasts a 2-1 victory for RB Leipzig W.

For Leipzig, a win is essential to maintain pressure on the league’s top half and European qualification places. Key attackers will look to exploit an Essen backline that has conceded multiple goals in eight matches this season.

Essen, fighting to climb out of the relegation zone, desperately needs points. Its home form has been mixed, with its last victory at Stadion Essen a 2-0 win over Nurnberg on Dec. 7. Generating offense remains a primary concern; the team has been shut out five times this campaign.

Following this match, RB Leipzig’s next fixture is at home against Union Berlin on March 14. SGS Essen travels to face Hoffenheim on March 15 in its next Frauen-Bundesliga contest.
