VIENNA (Interstat) — Visiting Wels delivered a major upset Friday, defeating Rapid Wien II 4-1 in a 2. Liga match at Allianz Stadion. The result defied pregame projections that heavily favored the home side.

Wels took control early as substitute Marek Švec opened the scoring in the 10th minute. Rapid Wien II’s Moulaye Haïdara equalized in the 27th, but Wels dominated the second half. Goals from Pascal Müller in the 58th, a second from Švec in the 72nd and Albin Gashi in the 82nd sealed the comprehensive victory.

The win marks a perfect start to Wels’ league campaign, while Rapid Wien II begins with a loss. The outcome contrasted sharply with statistical models that gave the home team an overwhelming probability to win.
