VIENNA (Interstat) — First Vienna FC defeated Sturm Graz 2-1 in a 2. Liga match Sunday at Care-Energy Naturarena Hohe Warte, overcoming a late first-half red card to secure the victory.

Jonas Peinhart opened the scoring for the hosts in the 30th minute. Sturm Graz equalized just before halftime when Bernhard Zimmermann scored in the 41st. The match turned just before the break as Sturm Graz’s Wisler Lazarre, booked earlier, received a second yellow in stoppage time.

Playing a man down, Sturm Graz conceded the decisive goal to Jürgen Bauer in the 65th minute. The result defied a pre-match projection from Interstat, which had forecast a 1-1 draw and given First Vienna a 60.1 percent chance to win. Both clubs opened their 2. Liga campaigns with this match.
