Preview: Deportes Venado Hosts Leones Negros in Liga de Expansión MX Clash

MEXICO CITY (Interstat) — Deportes Venado will look to reverse a recent result against Leones Negros when the two sides meet in Liga de Expansión MX action on Saturday.

The match at Estadio Francisco Villa in Zacatecas is scheduled for a 5 p.m. local kickoff.

The visiting Leones Negros (University of Guadalajara) enter with momentum from a 2-0 home victory over Morelia last Saturday. That win provided a boost for a squad that has experienced mixed results this season, including a 3-1 home loss to Mineros de Zacatecas on March 22 and a 5-2 road defeat at Tlaxcala in early February. Their most consistent trait has been a struggle for goals, having been shut out in four of their last ten league matches.

Deportes Venado arrives after a 1-1 road draw with Club Jaiba Brava last Sunday. The team has shown a capacity for high-scoring performances, including a 4-1 rout of Atlante on March 27 and a 4-4 draw with Dorados in January. However, consistency has been elusive, with the club also suffering several multi-goal defeats.

The head-to-head history favors the visitors. In their last meeting on Nov. 2, 2025, Leones Negros secured a 1-0 home victory.

A statistical projection from Interstat forecasts a 2-1 victory for the home side, Deportes Venado.

Following this contest, Leones Negros will host Cancun on April 19. Deportes Venado will travel to face Tlaxcala on April 18.

The Liga de Expansión MX is Mexico’s second-tier professional football league.
