Atlante vs Min de Zacatecas

ZACATEPEC DE HIDALGO, Mexico (Interstat) — Atlante secured a decisive 3-1 victory over Mineros de Zacatecas in Liga de Expansión MX play on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Estadio Agustín Coruco Díaz, overcoming an early deficit with a strong second-half performance.

The visiting Mineros struck first in the 19th minute. Forward Luis Calzadilla found the net to give Zacatecas an early advantage, capitalizing on the momentum from their recent head-to-head win over Atlante just two weeks prior.

Atlante, the home side, responded before halftime. Substitute Andrés Mendoza leveled the score in the 38th minute, ensuring the teams entered the break deadlocked at 1-1.

The match’s complexion shifted dramatically in the second half. Mineros de Zacatecas was reduced to 10 men in the 79th minute when Jesús Lara was shown a direct red card. This followed yellow cards to Anderson Villacorta of Atlante in the 41st minute and Jairón Charcopa of Zacatecas in the 75th.

Playing with a man advantage, Atlante pressed for a winner. The breakthrough came deep into second-half stoppage time. Forward Samuel González scored in the sixth minute of added time to put Atlante ahead 2-1. The comeback was sealed moments later when forward Luis Puente added a third goal for the home side, finalizing the 3-1 scoreline.

The result defied the pre-match projection from Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast a 1-1 draw. However, it aligned with their ELO rating system, which gave Atlante a 77.4 percent probability to win.

With the win, Atlante improved its Liga de Expansión MX record to 18 wins, 11 losses and four draws this season. The loss dropped Mineros de Zacatecas to 14 wins, 10 losses and 10 draws in league play. Both teams’ overall records across all competitions mirror their league standings.

The victory provides a measure of revenge for Atlante, which suffered a 3-0 defeat to Mineros de Zacatecas on March 22. In the broader season series, the teams have now split their two meetings, with Atlante having won 4-1 in the first encounter on Oct. 25, 2025.

Mineros de Zacatecas entered the match on a three-game winning streak, including victories over Tapatío, Venados FC and Atlante itself. That run was decisively halted by Saturday’s result.

Atlante, which had lost two of its previous three matches, including a 4-1 defeat to Deportes Venado on March 27, halted its recent slide with the important home victory.

Mineros de Zacatecas must regroup quickly, as they are scheduled to host Tlaxcala in league play on Sunday, April 5. Atlante also returns to action on April 5, facing Cimarrones de Sonora at home.
