Rapid Vienna Edges Salzburg in Bundesliga Opener

VIENNA (Interstat) — Rapid Vienna opened the Austrian Bundesliga season with a 1-0 victory over rival Salzburg on Sunday at Allianz Stadion.

Janis Antiste scored the decisive goal in the 38th minute, converting a pass from Kouakou Gadou. The visiting Salzburg, which finished with four yellow cards, was held scoreless despite a late push. A stoppage-time equalizer by Salzburg’s Karim Konaté was disallowed after a video review.

The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat that forecast a draw. Rapid Vienna begins its league campaign with a win, while Salzburg starts with a loss.
