GUADALAJARA, Mexico (April 22, 2026) (Interstat) — Atlas opened its Liga MX season with a 1-0 upset victory over favored Tigres UANL on Wednesday at Estadio Jalisco.

The lone goal, scored in the second half, was assisted by substitute Fernando Gorriarán. The result defied pre-match projections, as statistical models heavily favored Tigres and predicted a draw.

The match was a physical affair, with four yellow cards issued. Tigres’ Fernando Gorriarán received the first booking in the 35th minute. Atlas midfielders Aldo Rocha and Jesús Garza, along with forward Luis Gamboa, were also cautioned.

The win gives Atlas a perfect start to the league campaign, while Tigres begins with a loss. Both clubs’ records across all competitions mirror their Liga MX results after this opening fixture.
