Pachuca Upsets Monterrey Behind Late Goal Surge in Liga MX Opener

GUADALUPE, Nuevo León (Interstat) — Visiting Pachuca scored three second-half goals to stun Monterrey 3-1 in the Liga MX opener for both clubs on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Estadio BBVA Bancomer.

The match defied pregame projections that heavily favored Monterrey. After a scoreless first half, Pachuca substitute Kenedy broke the deadlock in the 54th minute. Teammates Alán Bautista and Enner Valencia added goals in the 72nd and 83rd minutes, respectively, to secure the victory. Lucas Ocampos assisted on two of the goals for Pachuca.

Monterrey, which managed only one goal, saw its early season struggles continue. The result gave Pachuca a winning start in league play despite its poor overall form.
