Westerlo vs Sporting Charleroi

Preview: Westerlo Hosts Sporting Charleroi in Belgian First Division A Clash

WESTERLO, Belgium (Interstat) — Westerlo will seek to overturn a recent defeat and capitalize on Sporting Charleroi’s defensive struggles when the sides meet in the Belgian First Division A on Sunday.

The match at Het Kuipje stadium pits a Westerlo side coming off a confidence-boosting win against a Charleroi team reeling from a high-scoring loss.

Westerlo earned a 2-0 road victory over Kampong Speu Province last Sunday. However, form has been inconsistent for the hosts, who suffered a 4-0 defeat to Sint-Truiden on Feb. 6 and a 2-0 loss to Cercle Brugge in January. A highlight was a decisive 4-0 win over Anderlecht on Dec. 7.

Sporting Charleroi enters after a damaging 3-2 home loss to Gent on Feb. 14, a match that continued a troubling pattern. The previous week, Charleroi fell 4-3 at home to Cercle Brugge, meaning they have conceded seven goals in their last two domestic outings. This shaky defensive stretch overshadows a strong run prior, which included wins over Sint-Truiden, Standard Liege and Anderlecht.

The head-to-head advantage lies with the visitors. In their last meeting on Nov. 8, 2025, Charleroi secured a 2-0 home victory over Westerlo.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Westerlo is projected to win 2-1 on Sunday. A victory for either team would provide crucial momentum ahead of the league’s upcoming fixtures.

Following this match, Westerlo will next play at Sporting Oud-Heverlee on March 7. Sporting Charleroi’s next contest is at Genk, also on March 7.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. local time (1400 GMT) on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026.
