BRUSSELS (Interstat) — Anderlecht and visiting Dender opened their First Division A seasons with a 0-0 draw Sunday at Lotto Park.

The match failed to live up to statistical projections that heavily favored Anderlecht, which had an 89.5% win probability. The stalemate left both clubs with 0-0-1 records to start the domestic campaign.

Defender Marco Kana and midfielder Nathan Saliba were among six Anderlecht players noted for key performances in a physical contest that produced six yellow cards. Saliba was booked in the 41st minute, sparking a run of cautions that included five Anderlecht players.

The result was a defensive success for Dender against one of the league’s traditional powers.
