GUAYAQUIL, Ecuador (Interstat) — Emelec began its Liga Pro season with a commanding 5-0 win over El Nacional on Monday at Estadio George Capwell.

The home side delivered a performance that far exceeded projections, dismantling El Nacional after a pregame simulation had predicted a 1-1 draw. Midfielder José Cevallos opened the scoring in the 42nd minute. Defender Romario Caicedo added a second in the 60th before a decisive burst sealed the rout.

Midfielder Maicon Solís scored twice in a three-minute span, finding the net in the 71st and 74th minutes. Forward Washington Corozo completed the scoring in the 79th. Substitute Rommel Cabezas recorded an assist for Emelec, which was given a 76.9% win probability by statistical models before the match.

The result gives Emelec a winning start to the domestic campaign while El Nacional searches for its first points.
