Roadside Upset Defies Odds in Greek League Opener

TRÍPOLI, Greece (Interstat) — Panserraikos opened its Super League 1 season with a 1-0 upset victory over Asteras Tripolis on Sunday, defying heavy statistical odds.

The match’s only goal came in first-half stoppage time, with Andrei Ivan scoring in the 45+2 minute at Stadio Theodoros Kolokotronis. The visitors’ win was improbable, as pregame projections heavily favored Asteras Tripolis.

The game was marred by discipline issues, including a red card shown to Jaŭhien Jablonski in the 28th minute. Six yellow cards were also issued in a physical contest.

The result gives Panserraikos a winning start to the domestic campaign, while the home side begins with a loss. Interstat’s models had projected a draw and gave Asteras Tripolis a nearly 75% chance to win.
