PAOK vs Kifisias
ATHENS, Greece (Interstat) — PAOK Thessaloniki opened its Super League 1 campaign with a commanding 3-0 victory over newly promoted Kifisias on Sunday at Stadio Apostolos Nikolaidis.
The match, which served as the season opener for Greece’s top flight, unfolded as a one-sided affair largely in line with pregame projections. Statistical models heavily favored the traditional power from Thessaloniki, and the on-field action confirmed the disparity.
PAOK established control from the opening whistle and broke through in the 21st minute. Forward Andrews Tetteh provided the early breakthrough, scoring the first goal of the match to give the home side a lead it would not relinquish.
The first half saw a flurry of disciplinary action, with four yellow cards issued between the 26th and 50th minutes. Kifisias’s challenges were frequent but failed to disrupt PAOK’s rhythm. The visitors’ task grew significantly more difficult just past the hour mark when substitute Alex Petkov, who had been booked earlier, received a second yellow card in the 63rd minute, reducing Kifisias to 10 men for the final half-hour.
Playing with a man advantage, PAOK capitalized with two quick goals to seal the result. Striker Karol Świderski doubled the lead in the 81st minute, and just three minutes later, forward Vicente Taborda added a third goal to complete the scoring.
The match concluded with a flurry of late bookings, bringing the total to nine yellow cards and one red. Aside from Petkov’s dismissal for Kifisias, all other cautions were issued to PAOK players, including substitutes Hugo Sousa, Luciano Maidana, Moisés Ramírez, Lazare Amani and Dimitris Theodoridis, as well as starters Santino Andino and Sverrir Ingi Ingason.
The victory gives PAOK an immediate three points and a positive goal differential to start its Super League 1 season, moving its record to one win and no losses. For Kifisias, the defeat marks a challenging start to life in the top division, as it begins the campaign with a loss.
The lopsided result was anticipated by analytics firm Interstat, whose pregame simulator projected a 4-0 win for PAOK and gave the club a 98.4 percent probability of victory based on its ELO rating system.
PAOK will look to build on the opening win as it continues its pursuit of a league title, while Kifisias seeks to regroup and find its footing against top-flight competition.
