Atromitos vs OFI

ATHENS, Greece (Interstat) — Substitute Taxiarchis Fountas scored twice to power OFI to a 2-1 comeback victory over Atromitos in a Super League 1 match at Stadio Peristeriou on Saturday.

The result, which reversed a 3-1 loss to Atromitos from October, improved OFI’s league record to seven wins and 11 losses this season. Atromitos, still seeking consistency, fell to four wins, 11 losses and three draws.

The game began in chaotic fashion, with Atromitos goalkeeper Eleftherios Choutesiotis receiving a yellow card in the 14th minute. Just a minute later, the home side struck first. A long clearance from Choutesiotis, credited with an assist, found its way to Fountas, who had just entered the match. The forward finished calmly to give the visitors a surprising early lead against the run of play.

OFI’s response was swift. Seven minutes later, in the 22nd minute, they leveled the score. A build-up involving substitute Giannis Apostolakis, who was later booked, led to a cross from defender Mansur. Midfielder Samuel Moutoussamy met it with a decisive finish to make it 1-1. Mansur would also see a yellow card in the second half.

The decisive blow came four minutes before halftime. Again, Fountas was the finisher, this time set up by fellow substitute Thiago Nuss. The goal gave OFI a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish, despite Nuss receiving a caution early in the second half.

The second half saw fewer clear chances but maintained a physical edge, with OFI’s Juan Neira booked in the 86th minute. Atromitos pressed for an equalizer but could not break through a disciplined OFI defense, failing to build on the momentum from their previous league result, a 3-0 win over Volos NFC.

The outcome defied the pre-match projections. Interstat’s game simulator had predicted a 1-1 draw, while its ELO rating system gave OFI a 61.5 percent probability of victory, a forecast the club ultimately fulfilled.

OFI, which had edged Puebla 1-0 in its previous outing, has now won two straight across all competitions. The team from Heraklion will look to continue this form when it hosts APO Levadeiakos in a Greek Cup match on Wednesday before a league rematch with the same opponent on Feb. 8.

Atromitos, coming off a scoreless draw with PAOK, faces a quick turnaround to address its defensive lapses. Its schedule does not get easier, with a trip to face Kifisias in league play next on Feb. 7.
