Preview: Crotone Hosts Potenza in Key Serie C Clash

ROME (Interstat) — A high-stakes Serie C matchup in Italy’s third division is set for Saturday as Crotone hosts Potenza Calcio at Ezio Scida Stadium. The contest pits two sides with playoff ambitions coming off contrasting recent form.

Crotone (8-6-7) enters with momentum, fresh from a commanding 2-0 road victory over Cosenza on Monday. That win helped erase the memory of a disappointing 1-0 home loss to Team Altamura on Jan. 10. The Sharks have been inconsistent at home this season, boasting a strong victory over Casarano in December but also suffering defeats to Altamura and Catania.

Potenza (7-9-5) arrives following a confidence-boosting 2-0 home win against Casertana last Sunday. That result snapped a five-match winless streak in league play (0-3-2) for the Rossoblu, who had struggled to find victories since late November. Their form has been a mix of resilient draws and puzzling defeats, including a 3-0 home loss to Cavese in November.

The head-to-head history suggests an entertaining affair. The last meeting between these clubs ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw in Potenza on Sept. 12, 2025.

A key tactical battle will unfold in midfield, where Crotone will look to control tempo and feed its attackers, while Potenza aims to disrupt and counter. Crotone’s defense, coming off a clean sheet, will be tested by a Potenza attack that has shown potency, scoring three goals on three occasions this season but also being shut out four times.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Crotone is projected to secure a 2-1 victory.

The outcome carries significant weight for the Serie C Group C table. A win for Crotone would solidify its position in the upper tier, while Potenza seeks a crucial road result to build on its latest win and climb into a more secure playoff position.

For Crotone, the fixture begins a challenging stretch that includes upcoming matches against Foggia and a trip to Monopoli. Potenza faces a similarly demanding schedule, with fixtures against Siracusa, Atalanta U23, and Benevento looming in February.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. local time (1345 GMT) in Crotone.
