SANGOLQUI, Ecuador (Interstat) — Independiente del Valle and Paraguay’s CA Libertad opened their Liga Pro campaigns with a 1-1 draw Saturday at Estadio Banco Guayaquil.

The match saw both goals scored in quick succession just before halftime. Libertad substitute Yerlin Quiñónez opened the scoring in the 41st minute. The home side responded almost immediately, with forward Claudio Spinelli equalizing in the third minute of first-half stoppage time.

The frantic close to the half included a yellow card to Libertad’s Carlos Arboleda just before Spinelli’s leveler. The physical contest produced six total cautions.
