LA PLATA, Argentina (Interstat) — Substitute Tiago Palacios scored in the 62nd minute to give Estudiantes La P a 1-0 victory over host Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata in a Primera Nacional match Monday at Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo.

The decisive goal, assisted by fellow substitute Santiago Núñez, secured the away win in the local derby. The result defied pre-match projections, as statistical models heavily favored Gimnasia. The match was a physical contest, featuring eight yellow cards issued by the 74th minute.

With the win, Estudiantes begins its campaign in the Argentine second division with a victory, while Gimnasia starts with a defeat. Both clubs see their overall season records mirror those in league play.
