LISBON, Portugal (Dec. 28, 2025) (Interstat) — Sporting Lisbon opened its Primeira Liga campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Rio Ave on Sunday at Estádio José Alvalade.

Forward Luis Suárez led the rout with a hat trick, scoring in the 34th, 60th and 61st minutes. Maximiliano Araújo added a goal in the 53rd minute. The lopsided result defied a pregame projection of a 2-1 score by Interstat, which gave Sporting Lisbon a 97.5% probability to win.

Sporting Lisbon begins the season with a win, while Rio Ave starts with a loss. Gonçalo Inácio and João Tomé received yellow cards in the first half.
