LISBON (Interstat) — A second-half goal from forward Vangelis Pavlidis gave Benfica a 1-0 victory over Famalicão in a Primeira Liga match Monday at Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

The lone score came in the 65th minute, assisted by substitute Justin de Haas, who entered the match at halftime. De Haas also received a yellow card in the 34th minute. The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat, whose simulator had forecast a 2-1 Benfica win, though its ELO system gave the hosts a 99 percent probability of victory.

With the win, Benfica begins its league campaign with a 1-0 record, while Famalicão starts 0-1.
