Coquimbo Unido Opens Season With 4‑2 Victory Over Union Espanola in Chilean Primera División
COQUIMBO, Chile (Interstat) — Coquimbo Unido opened its Primera División season with a decisive 4-2 victory over Union Espanola on Saturday at Estadio Bicentenario Francisco Sánchez Rumoroso.
Substitute Felipe Massri opened the scoring for the visitors in the 19th minute, but Coquimbo Unido responded with three unanswered goals. Forward Cristián Zavala scored twice, in the 33rd and 58th minutes, before defender Francisco Salinas added a third in the 77th.
Union Espanola’s Ignacio Núñez pulled one back three minutes later, but a late own goal from Union Espanola goalkeeper Diego Sánchez sealed the 4-2 result. The outcome defied a pregame projection of a 1-1 draw, though statistical models heavily favored the home side.
The win gives Coquimbo Unido a winning start to the domestic campaign, while Union Espanola begins with a loss.
