Delfin vs Emelec
GUAYAQUIL, Ecuador (Interstat) — A heated Ecuadorian Serie A clash is set for Sunday when Delfin hosts Emelec, with both clubs looking to reverse recent poor form in the final stretch of the Liga Pro season.
The match at the Estadio Jocay in Manta will see a Delfin squad reeling from consecutive heavy defeats. Delfin (2-7-6) was thrashed 3-0 by Macara last Sunday and suffered an 8-0 demolition at the hands of Aucas on Nov. 10. Prior to that, they managed a 2-0 win over CD Cuenca on Oct. 31.
Emelec (4-6-5) arrives with its own struggles, coming off a 2-0 home loss to Aucas on Nov. 22. That defeat extended a winless streak to three matches, following a 2-1 loss to El Nacional and a scoreless draw with Guayaquil City. Their last victory was a 1-0 result against this same Delfin side on Oct. 27.
The head-to-head record this year is tightly contested. Emelec won the most recent encounter 1-0. Before that, the teams played to a 2-2 draw in June, and Delfin secured a 2-0 home win last February.
According to the Interstat game simulator, Sunday’s match is projected to end in a 1-1 draw. A result mirroring that June stalemate would provide both clubs a point but likely do little to satisfy either side’s need for a decisive victory.
