TIJUANA, Mexico (Interstat) — Tijuana opened its Liga MX season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Tigres UANL on Thursday, defying pregame projections in a lopsided match at Estadio Caliente. Kevin Castañeda opened the scoring in the 27th minute. Mourad El Ghezouani and Gilberto Mora added second-half goals to secure the win for the home side. Substitute Juan Brunetta provided an assist. The result was a surprise after statistical models heavily favored Tigres, projecting them to win with over a 70 percent probability. Tijuana begins the campaign with a win, while Tigres start with a loss.
