Late Flamengo Rally Secures Draw in Season Opener
MIRASSOL, Brazil (Interstat) — Flamengo rallied from a two-goal deficit to salvage a 3-3 draw with Mirassol FC on Saturday in the Brazilian Serie A opener for both clubs at Estádio José Maria de Campos Maia.
The home side stunned the favored visitors, building a 3-1 lead by the 41st minute with goals from Douglas Telles, Chico Kim and Alesson. Flamengo’s Guilherme scored his first in the 31st.
The midfielder then sparked the comeback, netting his second in the 59th before assisting Cristian Renato’s equalizer six minutes later. Mirassol substitute Guilherme also scored twice.
The result defied pre-match projections that heavily favored Flamengo. Each side received one yellow card in a match that left both with 0-0-1 records to start the domestic campaign.
