SAO PAULO (Interstat) — Substitute Edison Negueba scored in the 88th minute Sunday to secure a 1-1 draw for EC Juventude against SC Corinthians Paulista at Neo Química Arena. The result defied pregame projections that heavily favored the home side.

Corinthians midfielder José Andrés Martínez opened the scoring in the 23rd minute of the Serie A match. Juventude’s equalizer came from Negueba, who finished a play assisted by fellow substitute Caique in the dying moments. Caique had entered the match after receiving a yellow card in the 57th minute.

The draw left both teams with identical records in the Brazilian top flight: no wins, no losses and one draw. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a 3-0 Corinthians victory, with its ELO system giving the hosts a 70% chance to win.
