BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil (Interstat) — SE Palmeiras opened its Serie A campaign with a commanding 3-0 victory over CA Mineiro on Wednesday at Arena MRV.

All three goals came from substitutes. José Manuel López opened the scoring in the ninth minute, followed by Allan in the 20th and Luighi in the 81st. The result defied a pregame projection that favored a narrower Palmeiras win.

Mineiro’s Joaquín Piquerez was sent off with a red card in the 45th minute, compounding the home side’s struggles. Three yellow cards were also issued in the match.

With the win, Palmeiras begins the Brazilian top-flight season at 1-0, while Mineiro starts 0-1.
