AEK Athens vs OFI

ATHENS, Greece (Interstat) — AEK Athens continued its dominant domestic form and advanced in the Greek Cup on Wednesday, defeating OFI 2-0 at Agia Sophia Stadium behind first-half goals from Roberto Pereyra and João Mário.

The victory, played Dec. 3, 2025, keeps AEK Athens perfect in the Cup competition this season with five wins and no losses. OFI, which had won four of its previous five Cup matches, saw its tournament run halted.

AEK Athens controlled the match from the start and broke through in the 19th minute. Pereyra finished a flowing team move to give the hosts an early lead. The home side continued to apply pressure and doubled its advantage just after the hour mark. In the 61st minute, João Mário found the net to secure the result.

The match marked the second time in less than a month that AEK Athens has defeated OFI, following a 1-0 league victory on Nov. 9. The statistical service Interstat had projected the exact 2-0 outcome and gave AEK Athens a 94.80 percent probability to win beforehand, a forecast the home side fulfilled with a professional performance.

The loss extends a difficult run for OFI, which has now lost two consecutive matches across all competitions following a 1-0 defeat to Volos NFC on Nov. 29. OFI’s overall season record fell to seven wins and nine losses. In contrast, AEK Athens improved its formidable overall record to 17 wins and only two losses. One of those rare losses was a 2-0 defeat to rival Olympiakós SFP on Oct. 26.

The game’s dynamic followed recent patterns for both clubs. OFI’s previous results this season show inconsistency, with the team conceding three or more goals in five of its nine losses. AEK Athens, meanwhile, has built its success on a stout defense, recording 10 clean sheets in its 19 total matches listed, including this Cup tie.

Wednesday’s result sets AEK Athens on a continued path in the domestic Cup while OFI shifts focus back to league survival. The two clubs are scheduled to meet again in the Greek Super League on Dec. 21 at AEK Athens’s stadium, providing OFI with a quick opportunity for redemption.

Looking ahead, OFI faces a demanding league schedule, beginning with a trip to face Olympiakós SFP on Saturday. AEK Athens will host Atromitos in league play on Sunday before a trip to face Puebla the following weekend.

The match was organized by the Hellenic Football Federation as part of the Greek Cup knockout stages.
