Bayer Leverkusen Women Rally Past RB Leipzig Women in High-Scoring Bundesliga Opener

LEVERKUSEN, Germany (Interstat) — Bayer Leverkusen Women opened the Frauen-Bundesliga season with a 3-2 comeback victory over RB Leipzig Women on Saturday at Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion.

Loreen Bender gave Leverkusen an early lead in the second minute, but Estrella Gonzalez equalized for Leipzig in the ninth. The visitors took a 2-1 lead in the 56th minute on a goal from substitute Marlene Müller. Leverkusen responded swiftly, with Vanessa Fudalla scoring four minutes later before setting up Emilía Ásgeirsdóttir’s decisive 60th-minute goal. Bender and Fudalla each finished with a goal and an assist.

The result defied a pregame projection favoring Leverkusen but predicting a 2-1 Leipzig win. Both teams received three yellow cards in the contest.
