Texas State W at Baylor W

WACO, Texas (Interstat) — The Baylor Lady Bears delivered a commanding performance Friday night, shutting out the Texas State Bobcats 3-0 in an NCAA women’s soccer match at Betty Lou Mays Field.

The victory, played before an announced crowd of 827, saw Baylor’s defense stifle the Texas State attack while its offense capitalized on key opportunities to secure the decisive win.

The Lady Bears set the tone early, breaking through in the 21st minute. Defender Hallie Augustyn, pushing forward, opened the scoring with her first goal of the season, assisted by forward Lauren Omholt. The goal gave Baylor a lead it would not relinquish.

Baylor doubled its advantage just before halftime. In the 43rd minute, midfielder Kai Hayes found the back of the net, with midfielder Tyler Isgrig providing the helper. The goal gave the Lady Bears significant momentum heading into the break.

The home side put the game out of reach in the 68th minute. Midfielder Olivia Hess secured the final goal, cementing the 3-0 scoreline with an assist from forward Theresa McCullough.

The result halted a positive run of form for Texas State, which entered the match on a two-game winning streak with consecutive 1-0 victories over Louisiana-Monroe and South Alabama. The Bobcats’ season record now stands at 9-3-5. Their last defeat before Friday was a 4-1 loss to this same Baylor squad back on Sept. 7.

For Baylor, the win served as a strong rebound from a 4-0 loss to BYU in its previous outing. The Lady Bears improved their record to 13-4-4 with the victory. The outcome defied the pregame projection from Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast a 1-1 draw. The service’s ELO system, however, had given Baylor a 66.90 percent probability to win.

Both teams utilized their benches extensively throughout the physical contest, with a combined 39 substitutions made. Key rotational moves for Baylor included the early exits of goal contributors Omholt and McCullough, while Texas State frequently shuffled its lineup in an attempt to find an offensive spark that never materialized against a stout Baylor backline.

The match was a non-conference fixture for both programs. Baylor continues its campaign in Big 12 play, while Texas State returns to Sun Belt Conference action.
