Grambling W at Texas Christian W
FORT WORTH, Texas (Interstat) — The Texas Christian Lady Frogs delivered a commanding performance Friday night, overwhelming the Grambling Lady Tigers 7-0 in an NCAA women’s soccer match.
Playing before an intimate crowd of 700, the Lady Frogs left no doubt from the outset, showcasing an offensive onslaught that far exceeded expectations. The final margin was a stark contrast to pregame projections, which had anticipated a tightly contested affair.
The offensive fireworks were led by forward Seven Castain, who spearheaded the attack with a dominant individual performance. Castain recorded a hat trick, netting three goals, and added an assist to cap a standout night. Her efforts set the tone for a relentless Texas Christian offense that Grambling struggled to contain.
Midfielder Emma Yolinsky provided significant support, contributing two goals of her own to the Lady Frogs’ tally. The scoring was distributed among several players, with forwards Grace Vest and Cameron Patton each adding a goal and an assist to the scoresheet. The playmaking duties were shared widely, as Sydney Becerra, AJ Hennessey and Marli Galdamez were each credited with an assist.
The match was characterized by frequent substitutions as both coaches utilized their benches extensively. Grambling made its first change in the 11th minute, substituting out Olivia Kowall, in an early attempt to find an answer for TCU’s pressure. Texas Christian began rotating players shortly after, with Cate Sarinopoulos coming out in the 22nd minute.
The substitutions continued at a rapid pace, particularly around the halftime break, where a flurry of changes saw both teams alter their lineups significantly. The second half saw more of the same, with Grambling making multiple changes in quick succession in an effort to stem the tide.
The victory improves Texas Christian’s record to 16 wins, 2 losses and 3 draws this season. The Lady Frogs have been in formidable form, with their last result a 2-2 draw against BYU on Nov. 3. Their potent offense has been a consistent feature, with notable wins including a 3-1 victory over Oklahoma State and a 3-2 win against rival Texas earlier in the campaign.
The loss drops Grambling to 11 wins, 7 losses and 4 draws. The Lady Tigers entered the match on a positive run, having defeated Jackson State 2-1 on Nov. 10 and Alcorn State 6-0 on Nov. 7. However, they found themselves unable to replicate that form against a superior Texas Christian side. The team has experienced mixed results against non-conference opponents, including a 6-0 loss to South Florida in September.
The lopsided result defied the pregame analytics. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a narrow 2-1 victory for the Lady Frogs, while its ELO rating system gave Texas Christian a 75.70 percent probability of winning. The actual outcome demonstrated a gulf in class that the models did not anticipate, underscoring the dominant nature of Texas Christian’s performance on the night.
The game served as a strong statement for the Lady Frogs as they continue their season, highlighting their offensive depth and efficiency in front of goal. For the visiting Lady Tigers, it was a difficult outing that halted their recent momentum and exposed areas for improvement against top-tier opposition.
