High Point W at Virginia W

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Interstat) — The Virginia women’s soccer team delivered a commanding performance Friday night, overwhelming High Point 5-0 in a non-conference match.

Playing before a crowd of 1,212 at Klöckner Stadium, the Cavaliers’ offense proved far more potent than statistical projections, which had favored Virginia by a narrow margin. The win improved Virginia’s record to 8-3-3, while High Point fell to 1-5-4.

The Cavaliers’ attack was ignited by forward Maggie Cagle, who orchestrated the offense with a goal and two assists. Her playmaking set the tone for a dominant first half that saw Virginia build an insurmountable lead.

Sophia Bradley also had a multi-point night for the Cavaliers, contributing a goal and an assist. The scoring was rounded out by a trio of players each finding the net once: midfielder Ella Carter, forward Allie Ross and midfielder Addison Halpern.

The defensive unit also got involved in the offensive outburst, with defenders Tatum Galvin and Pearl Cecil each recording an assist, as did midfielder Kira Waller.

The match saw frequent substitutions from both benches, with Virginia making strategic changes throughout the contest to manage its lineup. High Point also utilized its bench extensively in an attempt to find a response to Virginia’s relentless pressure.

The victory provides a positive momentum shift for Virginia, which was coming off a 3-2 road loss against Stanford on Nov. 6. The Cavaliers’ offense, which had been held scoreless in a draw with Florida State on Nov. 2, rediscovered its scoring touch in emphatic fashion.

For High Point, the loss extends a difficult stretch. The Panthers entered the match having secured just one win in their last eight outings, a 2-1 victory over Radford on Nov. 6. The team has struggled to find consistent results throughout the season.

The game was part of the NCAA women’s soccer schedule. Both teams now look ahead to their next fixtures as they continue their respective campaigns.
