Ohio State W at Georgia W
ATHENS, Ga. (Interstat) — The Ohio State Buckeyes delivered a disciplined road performance to shut out the Georgia Bulldogs 2-0 in an NCAA women’s soccer match on Friday.
Playing before a crowd of 1,203, the Buckeyes defied pregame projections that heavily favored the home side. Interstat’s game simulator had predicted a 1-1 draw, and its ELO system gave Georgia a 66.4 percent probability of victory. Instead, Ohio State’s defense held firm, and its offense capitalized sufficiently to secure the result.
The victory improved Ohio State’s record within the competition to six wins, two losses and five draws. The loss moved Georgia’s record in the same competition to seven wins, four losses and five draws. Their overall season records are identical to their competition records.
The match saw a flurry of first-half substitutions as both coaches sought to establish control. Georgia made a double change near the half-hour mark, withdrawing Millie Filson and Maddie Baker. Ohio State responded with several changes of its own, including the exit of starters Jadin Bonham and Elle Britt within a five-minute span.
A significant wave of substitutions occurred at halftime, with Ohio State making four changes and Georgia making two, indicating tactical shifts for the second half.
The Buckeyes’ defensive organization stifled a Georgia attack that has shown potency this season. The Bulldogs were coming off a 1-0 road victory over Mississippi State but have now been held scoreless in two of their last three outings, including a 2-0 loss at Vanderbilt on Nov. 6.
For Ohio State, the clean sheet builds on a recent stretch of solid defensive form. Prior to this match, the Buckeyes had conceded only one goal in their previous three contests, a run that included a 1-0 loss to Illinois and a 3-1 win over Maryland.
The match provided a key non-conference result for both programs as they near the conclusion of their regular seasons. Ohio State will look to carry the momentum from this road victory into its final matches, while Georgia will aim to rediscover its scoring touch after being blanked at home.
