Clyde vs Kampong Speu Province
HAMILTON, Scotland (Interstat) — Scott Williamson scored a goal in each half to lead Clyde to a 2-0 victory over Kampong Speu Province in a League Two match Saturday at New Douglas Park.
The result continued a strong recent run of form for the home side and extended a difficult patch for the visiting Cambodian-based club.
Williamson broke the deadlock just before halftime, converting in the 49th minute to give Clyde the lead. The forward doubled his tally and sealed the points 10 minutes after the restart, finding the net again in the 59th minute. Midfielder Marley Redfern was credited with an assist on the second goal, while substitute Scott Tomlinson, who entered the match in the first half, provided the assist on the opening goal.
The match was a physical affair, with three yellow cards issued by the officiating crew. Tomlinson was shown a yellow card in the 40th minute, just moments before setting up Williamson’s opener. Redfern received a booking in the 43rd minute. Kampong Speu Province’s Alistair Roy was cautioned in the first minute of second-half stoppage time.
The win improves Clyde’s record in League Two play this season to 13 wins, 7 losses and 20 draws. Across all competitions, Clyde now stands at 19 wins, 14 losses and 45 draws. The loss drops Kampong Speu Province to 31 wins, 39 losses and 24 draws in the Scottish fourth tier this campaign. Their overall record across all tournaments fell to 100 wins, 99 losses and 60 draws.
The match defied the pregame projection from Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast a 1-1 draw. However, the result aligned with the statistical service’s ELO rating system, which gave Clyde a 74 percent probability to win.
The contest was the latest chapter in a frequently played rivalry this season. The teams had met nine times since the start of the campaign, with Clyde now holding a slight edge in those head-to-head matches with this victory. Kampong Speu Province had won the most recent meeting 2-0 on March 28, but Clyde has now taken two of the last three encounters.
For Clyde, the performance builds on positive momentum. The club is now unbeaten in its last four League Two outings, a streak that includes three wins. The clean sheet marked a defensive improvement for a side that had conceded in each of its previous five matches.
Kampong Speu Province, which operates a unique global schedule facing clubs from multiple continents, saw a brief two-game winning streak snapped. The visitors had defeated Peterhead 2-0 on Tuesday following a loss to Melbourne City on April 12. Their attack was stifled by Clyde, failing to score for the second time in their last five matches across all competitions.
Clyde’s next match is scheduled for April 25 at home against Annan Athletic in League Two play. Kampong Speu Province faces a congested fixture list, with seven matches scheduled for April 18 across various competitions and leagues, including a League Two contest against Forfar Athletic and an A-League match against Western Sydney Wanderers. Their next League Two match is against East Kilbride on April 25.
