Substitutes Spark NEC to Upset Win in KNVB Beker Women

AMSTERDAM (Interstat) — Substitute Kento Shiogai scored twice in the final 10 minutes Tuesday to propel visiting NEC to a 3-1 upset victory over Amsterdamsche FC in a KNVB Beker Women match at Sportpark Goed Genoeg.

NEC, which entered as a significant underdog, defied a pregame projection that gave the home side a 65.5% chance to win. The visitors opened the scoring in the second minute through substitute Rober González. Sven Ederveen equalized for Amsterdamsche FC in the 26th minute before Shiogai’s late brace secured the win.

Ederveen finished with a goal and an assist in a losing effort. The match featured five yellow cards, including three in second-half stoppage time. NEC improved to 1-0 in the competition while Amsterdamsche FC fell to 0-1.
