QUITO, Ecuador (Interstat) — El Nacional defeated Emelec 2-1 on Sunday in a Liga Pro match at Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa.

Djorkaeff Reasco opened the scoring for the home side in the 42nd minute. Substitute Sergio Quintero, who entered the match after a first-half yellow card to an Emelec player also named Sergio Quintero, then assisted on a goal by Charles Vélez in the 89th minute to seal the victory for El Nacional.

The win gives El Nacional a measure of revenge after a 4-0 loss to Emelec in their previous meeting in September. Both clubs now hold 0-0 records to start this new stage of the domestic competition.
