Birmingham City Upsets Wrexham in Championship Opener
BIRMINGHAM, England (Interstat) — Birmingham City FC opened its season with a 2-0 victory over Wrexham in the Championship on Sunday at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park. The result defied pregame projections that heavily favored the visitors.
Forward Carlos Vicente broke the stalemate in the 48th minute. Defender Christoph Klarer sealed the win in the 71st, heading in a service from substitute Max Cleworth. Jhon Solis provided an assist on the opening goal.
Wrexham, which entered with a high probability to win according to Interstat’s ELO system, was held scoreless. Both Solis and Cleworth received early yellow cards. Birmingham begins its campaign with a win, while Wrexham starts with a loss.
