Huskies Edge Zips to Claim Big East Championship in Tight Contest

BOYDS, Md. (Interstat) — The Connecticut Huskies defeated the Akron Zips 2-1 on Thursday to win the NCAA Men’s Big East Championship before an announced crowd of 518. The Huskies avenged a regular-season loss to the Zips, securing the conference title.

Akron midfielder Thomas O’Rourke scored a goal in the 90th minute, assisted by Stefan Dobrijevic and Jack Roman, but the late effort wasn’t enough to overcome Connecticut’s two scores. The Huskies improved to 6-0-2 in the conference, while the Zips moved to 7-2-2.
