Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata Upsets Platense in Primera Nacional Opener

VICENTE LÓPEZ, Argentina (Interstat) — Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata opened its Primera Nacional season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Platense on Monday at Estadio Ciudad de Vicente López. The win defied pregame projections that heavily favored the home side.

All three goals came from substitutes. Manuel Panaro Miramon opened the scoring in the 20th minute, followed by a goal from Marcelo Torres in the 41st. Franco Torres sealed the dominant performance with a goal in the 86th minute. Defenders Tomás Silva and Juan Saborido, along with midfielder Maximiliano Rodríguez, each recorded an assist.

The loss marks a disappointing start for Platense, which was given a 63 percent probability to win by statistical models. Gimnasia improves to 1-0 in the Argentine second-division competition.
