FORTALEZA, Brazil (Interstat) — Cruzeiro was held to a 1-1 draw by Ceara SC on Saturday in a Carioca Série A match at Estádio Castelão, a result that defied heavy pregame projections. Vinícius Zanocelo put visiting Cruzeiro ahead in the 56th minute, but Ceara defender Willian Machado equalized in the 71st. Machado, who also assisted on the tying goal, was the standout performer. The draw was a surprise after Interstat’s models gave Cruzeiro an 89.4 percent probability to win. Both teams opened their Carioca Série A campaigns with a draw.
