SANTOS, Brazil (Interstat) — Santos opened its Carioca Série A campaign with a commanding 3-0 victory over Sport Recife on Friday at Estádio Urbano Caldeira. Neymar Jr. opened the scoring in the 25th minute, followed by a goal from substitute Lucas Kal in the 36th. Midfielder João Schmidt sealed the win in the 67th minute. The result defied a pregame projection that had forecast a draw, as Santos controlled the match from start to finish. The win gives Santos an early lead in the state championship, while Sport Recife begins its season with a loss.
