RIO DE JANEIRO (Interstat) — Vasco da Gama delivered a stunning 5-1 victory over Internacional on Friday, defying projections in a Carioca Série A match at Estádio Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama. The home side erupted for four first-half goals, including two from Rayan Vitor, to seize control. Carlos Gómez also scored twice in the opening minutes. Substitute Ricardo Mathias added a second-half goal, while fellow sub Johan Carbonero provided two assists. Internacional’s lone goal came from Cauan Barros. The lopsided result was a surprise after statistical models heavily favored Internacional to win. With the victory, Vasco da Gama begins its campaign 1-0, while Internacional starts 0-1.
