Gremio vs Palmeiras

RIO DE JANEIRO (Interstat) — A crucial Carioca Série A clash is set for Tuesday as Gremio hosts rival Palmeiras at the Arena do Gremio, with both Brazilian clubs looking to rebound from weekend setbacks.

The matchup comes just four months after their last meeting, a 1-0 victory for Palmeiras at home on July 26. Palmeiras (10-5-5) enters the contest following a scoreless draw with Fluminense on Saturday, extending a recent run of inconsistent form that includes two losses in their last three matches. Their potent attack, which produced a 5-1 rout of RB Bragantino in October, has been held to one goal or fewer in three of their last four outings.

Gremio (7-5-8) is also seeking stability after a 3-2 defeat to Botafogo on Saturday snapped a brief winning streak. Their home form has been a mixed bag, with a 2-0 victory over Vasco da Gama on Nov. 19 preceded by a 2-0 loss to Paulista at the beginning of the month.

According to a projection by Interstat, the tense derby is likely to end in a 1-1 draw. The result would see Palmeiras maintain its recent upper hand in the head-to-head series while leaving both teams with a share of the points as the season progresses.

Gremio will look to its next fixture against Fluminense on Dec. 2, while Palmeiras aims to rediscover its scoring touch to climb the table.
