PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil (Interstat) — Grêmio defeated Vasco da Gama 2-0 on Wednesday in a Carioca Série A match at Arena do Grêmio. Carlos Vinícius opened the scoring in the 51st minute, and Francis Amuzu sealed the victory with a goal in the 84th. The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat, which had simulated a 2-2 draw. The match was a physical affair, featuring eight yellow cards, with seven issued in a contentious first half. With the win, Grêmio begins its campaign in the competition with a victory, while Vasco da Gama starts with a loss.
