Clermont vs Guingamp

CLERMONT-FERRAND, France (Interstat) — Henri Saivet scored in the 72nd minute to give Clermont a 1-0 victory over Guingamp on Saturday in Ligue 2 action at Stade Gabriel Montpied.

Saivet’s goal came from open play, breaking a scoreless deadlock that had persisted through much of the match. Guingamp’s Tanguy Ahile received a yellow card in the 77th minute for a foul during the run of play.

The win improved Clermont’s league record to 8 wins, 12 losses and 10 draws. Guingamp fell to 7 wins, 14 losses and 12 draws in Ligue 2 this season. Across all competitions, Clermont’s record stands at 8 wins, 13 losses and 13 draws, while Guingamp is 13 wins, 20 losses and 14 draws.

Clermont controlled possession for large stretches and created several chances before Saivet’s decisive strike. The home side’s defense held firm against Guingamp’s occasional counters, limiting the visitors to few clear opportunities. Guingamp goalkeeper Hugo Bouteiller made a handful of saves to keep the match close, but Saivet’s finish proved to be the only breakthrough.

The result extended Clermont’s recent solid form in league play. The team entered the match following a 1-1 draw against Bastia on April 24 and a scoreless draw against Paris Saint-Germain on April 19 in a friendly. Prior to that, Clermont lost 1-0 at Le Mans on April 17 and drew 2-2 at Nancy on April 10.

Guingamp, meanwhile, continued its struggles in Ligue 2. The loss came after a 3-2 defeat at Red Star on April 24, though Guingamp had a strong 5-0 win at GSI Pontivy in a cup match on April 18. In league play, Guingamp lost 2-1 at Pau on April 17 and fell 1-0 at home against Brest on April 11 before a 1-1 draw with Grenoble Foot 38 on April 10.

The head-to-head history between the two sides favored Clermont entering Saturday’s match. The teams had met once earlier in the season, on Oct. 24, 2025, when Clermont also won by a 1-0 score in Guingamp.

Saturday’s match was the penultimate league fixture for both teams. Clermont will travel to face Reims on Sunday, May 10, in its final Ligue 2 match of the season. Guingamp has a fixture against PD Ergue-Gaberic in the National 3 division on Saturday, May 9, as part of its schedule in that competition.

The match was played on a clear, cool evening in central France before a modest crowd at the 11,980-seat stadium. No injuries were reported.

Interstat’s game simulator had projected a 1-1 draw for the match, while Interstat’s ELO system gave Clermont a 69.50 percent probability to win.
