Sporting Charleroi vs Yellow-Red KV Mechelen
BRUSSELS (Interstat) — Sporting Charleroi will host Yellow-Red KV Mechelen on Thursday in a Belgian Cup match, a quick rematch of their league meeting from September.
The clubs last faced each other on Sept. 28, with Mechelen securing a 2-0 victory at Charleroi’s Stade du Pays de Charleroi. Thursday’s winner advances in the domestic cup competition.
Charleroi enters with mixed recent form. It played to a scoreless draw with lower-division Louviere Centre in its last outing on Nov. 29. Prior to that, it suffered a 1-0 league loss to Club Brugge on Nov. 22 but recorded a 2-0 win over Westerlo on Nov. 8. Its season has featured notable highs, including wins over Anderlecht and Genk, but inconsistent results.
Mechelen arrives with momentum from a 2-1 victory over Lierse in its most recent match on Oct. 28.
The Interstat game simulator projects a 1-1 draw, which would force extra time or penalties to decide which team progresses.
Following this cup tie, Charleroi returns to league play with a direct rematch at Mechelen on Dec. 7. Its December schedule also includes fixtures against Union St-Gilloise, Genk and Anderlecht.
